Television and Streaming

The rains have started and sitting cozy on the couch watching murder mysteries, coffee in hand, seems inviting.

Global has started “Murder in a Small Town” based on the books of L. R. Wright (rest in peace), a cozy series I enjoyed immensely, delighted it was unabashedly Canadian and featured the Sunshine Coast. The TV series keeps the setting and premise and stars Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk. I liked the first episode.

“Moonflower Murders” and the latest season of “Van der Valk” are on PBS with weekly episodes, no bingeing allowed, and the new take on “Matlock”, that I grudgingly watched for the amazing Kathy Bates, had me totally conned. The twist at the end was jaw-dropping and Bates surpasses my high expectations. Now there’s a several week wait for episode 2. Argh.

On Acorn, I whiled away a few hours with “Queens of Mystery” (British) and “Darby and Joan” (Australian). Queens is just 2 short seasons with familiar female faces, 3 author aunts and their police detective niece, but I anxiously await the second of Darby. Each season solves a larger mystery but each episode has its own as well, the Australian landscape is wonderful and the chemistry between Bryan Brown and Greta Scacchi is palpable.

Let me know what you’re watching. I’m always up for a good mystery.
